Some books take you a day to read, some take several months. I love Charles Dickens, Thomas Mann, John Galsworthy... and yet it always takes some motivation to pick up one of their books, although I do enjoy reading them very much.
And then there are books that are so easy that you end up rereading them every time you are too lazy to pick up a new story. In this post, I want to talk about the latter - the types of books you would want to pick up on a cosy night in.
1. Agatha Christie novels
There's nothing better to take your mind off of life than a good detective novel. I have been reading and re-reading Agatha Christie novels ever since I was a kid, and I really love how easy and short they are and how well they are written.
2. Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling
It is just me, or has anyone else read the Harry Potter books about 67 times already? I've read them all throughout my childhood, and I still love them as much as I did when I first started. I don't know what it is - the familiarity with the story, the feeling that I grew up alongside the characters, or just the fact that they're very well written. Anyway, it's always a good idea to start reading them again! The only risk is that you might not stop until you finish the last one...
3. The Ruby Red trilogy by Kerstin Gier
I still love this one a lot, although it's a typical teenage fantasy book and I usually don't like those as much. But it's about time travel, and I can never resist a historical touch to a story! It's such an easy read and it always puts me in a better mood. I discovered it when it first came out in Germany and have read it about 5 times ever since.
4. Biographies and autobiographies
There's something really intriguing in reading about people's lives. It doesn't have to be labelled an "autobiography", either. Like #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso for example: I read the book after watching the Netflix show (which I really loved, by the way!) and stories/manuals like this just always motivate me to try and do my own thing.
5. Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters' novels
Let's be real: all Jane Austen novels tell a similar story and Pride and Prejudice and Emma are the most popular ones for a reason (and yes, I have read all of them except Lady Susan). But all of her books are nice to read! You can probably find all of them at your local library, too. And if you haven't read the Brontë sisters' novels yet, then I highly recommend you try them on a cosy night in. 😊
6. Coffee table books
You know, these books that look very pretty and everyone is reading. I don't always fall in love with these, but they are an easy read and perfect for cosy nights! You can either borrow these from your friends (if everyone reads them, someone should have one on their shelf, right?) or buy them and use for decoration afterwards (unlike those worn out favourite books that suffered from too much love and don't look pretty at all anymore). I actually haven't read Everything, Everything yet so I probably shouldn't have included it, but it looked pretty in the picture...
So here you go! What are your favourite cosy books to read?
