Falling in love with New York

New York - view on a white cathedral

When Matt and I decided to go to New York, it was actually the first time that I left Europe so it was super exciting!

New York - View from the top of the Rockefeller Centre

We found a (pretty affordable) AirBnb in Harlem, where we stayed for the entire time we were there. We had been warned not to set foot in this part of town but we did it anyway. It was okay, for the most part, but it didn't feel super safe. The location was practical though, because we had a subway station close by and it didn't take us long to get to Manhattan.
Has anybody figured out that subway system though? There are no indications on which train is coming in next and where it's going - it's like you go to the station and hope for the best!

New York - Fifth avenue on a summer morning

I don't know if that's every year, but the weather was super hot the entire week although it was September already. One day we even had to go shopping (I didn't mind 😉 ) because we felt like we were melting in the sun! To be fair, my boyfriend and I both dislike hot weather, so it might be just us.

New York - Food - Fries and Burgers

We did eat burgers and fries once in a while, but there are tons of vegetarian places in New York, which is great if you want a break from unhealthy food!

New York - Brooklyn Bridge during a summer sunset

We stayed 5 days and most of that time, we would walk around and explore Manhattan. The skyscrapers were probably what impressed me the most (I spent the entire first day looking up to them and feeling really small), but also Central Park and Brooklyn and… basically everything. Walking the streets of New York for the first time just felt like I was in an episode of Gossip Girl!

One day, we decided to go for a night out in Brooklyn, which ended up being super fun (we even walked back over the Brooklyn Bridge in the middle of the night) - after we made it there. Somehow the train we wanted to take didn't run that day (was it because it was during the weekend? or late at night? I can't recall), so we accidentally took a wrong one, had to figure out a new way to get there... all that without access to the internet, obviously. Long story short, it took us 2 hours to set foot into Brooklyn. It was still worth it though and we had so much fun on our bar crawl!

Another cool thing to do is watching the sunset from Brooklyn - you get a beautiful view on Manhattan lighting up at night. Just buy food and drinks and be a little early so that you get a place to sit.

New York - Fountain in a Square

I personally can't wait to go back to New York one day! Isn't it just an amazing city?
