Why Southern Utah is absolutely worth the detour
Sunday, 28 May 2017
After having travelled through Arizona for days, we crossed the border to Utah. Here's the route we took:
Kanab
We had read about the town of Kanab that many Western movies were filmed there, so we were planning on driving through to take a quick look. But when we got there, I liked this little place so much that I convinced Matt to stay the night. We stayed at the Crazy Horse campground, which we liked a lot, and spent some time walking through Kanab. The buildings are kept in a Western type style, which is fun, and there's little bits of information about Hollywood actors who filmed there all across the main street.
On the road in Arizona & how to enjoy the RV life
Friday, 19 May 2017
After our Las Vegas experience, we rented an RV (read more about my RV experince here) and went for a - completely unorganised - road trip through Arizona and Utah. I say unorganised because we only had a rough idea of what we wanted to do: see the Grand Canyon, drive up to Page, see the desert and red rocks... that was basically as far as it went. We had a pick up and return date for the RV, which left us 7 days to fill, and no plan for anything else.
Kingman
We started our in Kingman because we saw a huge "RV PARK" sign on the side of the road and just decided to stay there. It was past 6pm and we weren't sure how this whole RV camping thing worked, so we just took advantage of the opportunity. Kingman is a pretty small town with an historic centre and, what we were most excited to see, part of the historic Route 66. It isn't anything special really, but it was quite a nice stay for the first night of our road trip.
One and a half amazing days in Las Vegas
Sunday, 14 May 2017
I’m not sure what I expected Las Vegas to be like, but I surely didn’t expect THIS. It’s incredible - literally. I felt like I was in Disney Land the whole time, or something like this. The buildings, the lights, the atmosphere. It’s pretty surreal.
Visiting Los Angeles for the first time
Sunday, 7 May 2017
The first thing I learnt during our trip to Los Angeles was to never ever book a flight with a layover only because it’s a little bit cheaper. Our first 9 hour flight from Paris to Chicago was fine (I collected 10 ways to survive a long distance flight here) – but then we got stuck there because our second flight was delayed by a couple of hours. We got to Los Angeles at night, after a 24 hour journey, and basically fell asleep right away – which ended up being a good thing though, because I didn’t have any jet lag at all! Despite the 9 hour time difference.
